London TC - SE DEPS Sector

Description

South East Departures Sector is a small but somewhat hectic sector. Arrivals and departure flows interact more than in any other sector requiring radar headings and stepped climb/descent.

The traffic flow is mostly London TMA arrivals and departures via the South-East, with some crossing traffic along the northern boundary of the sector. South East Departures Sector also provides aerodrome and approach services for EGLL, EGWU, EGLC and EGKB when the relevant units are offline.

Coordination

Heathrow (EGLL) and Northolt (EGWU)

Heathrow Dover departures will be transferred directly from Heathrow Tower to SE DEPS, following their SID routing.

SE DEPS is responsible for the Heathrow BIG stack. If the BIG stack should become full, additional holding should be carried out at TIGER.

Inbounds should be descended to MSL + 1, or the lowest level available in the hold. Aircraft at or above FL130 will stay with SE DEPS.

Northolt arrivals are to be treated as Heathrow arrivals.

Gatwick (EGKK)

Gatwick Detling, Dover, Lambourne and Clacton departures will be transferred directly from Gatwick Tower to SE DEPS, following their SID routing.

SE DEPS is responsible for the Gatwick TIMBA stack. If the TIMBA stack should become full, additional holding should be carried out at BEXIL.

Inbounds should be descended to MSL + 1, or the lowest level available in the hold. Aircraft at or above FL130 will stay with SE DEPS.

London City (EGLC) and Biggin Hill (EGKB)

The approach control service for London City is provided by Thames Radar. Biggin Hill inbounds are also initially controlled by Thames Radar. SE DEPS will treat London City and Biggin Hill inbounds similarly. Thames Radar is responsible for the ALKIN stack.

South East Departures Sector will descend inbounds to 4000 feet, to be level by Detling, and transfer them to Thames Radar. Other levels may be co-ordinated with Thames Radar, to prevent traffic converging at ALKIN at the same level.

London City departures will be controlled by Thames Radar initially. Departures to Detling, Southampton and Lydd will be transferred to SE DEPS on a South Easterly heading positioned 5nm NE of DET, climbing to 5000ft. Westerly departures must not be turned left; they must adhere to the right-hand turn and route north of the aerodrome prior to turning south.

Biggin Hill departures will also be controlled by Thames Radar initially. These will be co-ordinated individually with SE DEPS by Thames Radar.
