The North East Departures Sector is responsible for the North-Eastern quarter of the London TMA and the LAM, LOREL and ABBOT stacks. North East Departures’s traffic is primarily from the Eastern departures and arrivals for Heathrow, Stansted and Luton airports.
The North East Departures Sector is one of the busiest sectors in the TMA and very challenging due to the presence of 3 stacks and complex route interaction around BPK and BKY.

London TC
Traffic inbound to EHBD, EHEH, EHRD, EHSB, EHBK and EHWO is to be allocated a maximum of FL210 and co-ordinated with REDFA Sector.
London (EGLL) and Northolt (EGWU)
Heathrow Brookmans Park departures will be transferred directly from Heathrow Tower to NE DEPS, following their SID routing.
NE DEPS is responsible for the Heathrow LAM stack. If the LAM stack should become full, additional holding should be carried out at BRASO.
Inbounds should be descended to MSL + 1, or the lowest level available in the hold. Aircraft at or above FL140 will stay with NE DEPS. FL130 should not be used for holding.
Northolt arrivals are to be treated as Heathrow arrivals.
Stansted (EGSS) and Luton (EGGW)
NE DEPS is responsible for the LOREL and ABBOT stacks. These stacks are used for both Stansted and Luton inbounds. All traffic inbound to the ABBOT and LOREL stacks must be released to Essex Radar, regardless of the destination.
Inbounds should be descended to MSL + 1, or the lowest level available in the hold. Aircraft at or above FL130 will stay with NE DEPS. If the LOREL stack should become full, additional holding should be carried out at BOMBO or VATON. If the ABBOT stack should become full, additional holding should be carried out at LAPRA or LOGAN.
Stansted departures will be transferred directly from Stansted to NE DEPS, following their SID routing.
Luton departures to the east and southeast will be transferred directly from Luton to NE DEPS, following their SID routing.
London City (EGLC) and Biggin Hill (EGKB)
London City departures will be controlled by Thames Radar initially. Departures towards Brookmans Park will be transferred to NE DEPS climbing to 3000 feet.
Arrivals are to be routed towards SPEAR and transferred to Thames Radar in accordance with the standing agreement at 5000 feet. Arrivals from the east are subject to a standing agreement from REDFA at FL70, level by TRIPO.
The approach control service for London City is provided by Thames Radar. Biggin Hill inbounds are also initially controlled by Thames Radar. NE DEPS will treat London City and Biggin Hill inbounds similarly.
Thames Radar is responsible for the ALKIN stack. NE DEPS will descend inbounds to 5000 feet, to be level by SPEAR, and transfer them to Thames Radar. Other levels may be co-ordinated with Thames Radar, to prevent traffic converging at SPEAR at the same level.
London City departures will be controlled by Thames Radar initially. Departures to Detling and Lydd will be transferred to SE DEPS.
Biggin Hill departures will also be controlled by Thames Radar initially. These will be co-ordinated individually with SE DEPS by Thames Radar.
