Welcome to IVAO United Kingdom

Low Level Procedures

The Stansted Control Zone and Control Area are both Class D airspace. The rules for VFR flights within this airspace are:
- Remain at least 1500 metres horizontally and 1000ft vertically away from cloud and in a flight visibility of at least 5km
- Fixed wing aircraft at speeds of 140kts or less are to remain clear of cloud, in sight of the surface and in a flight visibility of 5km
- Helicopters are to remain clear of cloud and in sight of the surface

SSR Code allocation

Stansted SSR code allocation is 0201 - 0213. These are allocated as follows:
0201 - 0207 (General usage)
0210 (Stansted VFR Departures)
0211 (Stansted VFR Arrivals)
0212/0213 (Northolt Charlie Departures)

VFR Helicopter transit/landing/departing

For helicopters wishing to transit the field, 2 VRP's have been established for this purpose. They are the Northern end of hanger 4 and the Diamond Hanger.. Helicopters should be given a Stansted squawk, given a VFR clearance to the appropriate VRP and asked to report Stansted in sight. Once the helicopter reports the field in sight, they should be passed to AIR for crossing. They will then be told to hold at the next VRP and contact INT for further. Helicopters wishing to land at Stansted should be treated as crossers and will land on the main runway. Departing helicopters will be treated as fixed wing departures.

VFR Fixed Wing transit

VFR Fixed wing transits must not penetrate the ATZ without approval from AIR. A gap should be made in the arrival stream to facilitate the crossing. Crossing overhead the airffield should be made at the landing threshold of the runway in use.

VFR Fixed Wing landing/departing

VFR Fixed wing arrivals and departures will be told to route via one of the VRP's at an altitude not above 1500ft.

Special VFR

Special VFR flights may be authorised in the Stansted CTR. SVFR clearances to operate within the Stansted CTR, for the purpose of proceeding to or from the airport are not to be granted to fixed wing aircraft if the reported visibility at the airport is less than 3km or the reported cloud ceiling is less than 1000ft.

Visual Reference Points

The following VRP's have been established for aircraft operating to and from Stansted airport:
- Audley End
- Braintree
- Chelmsford
- Epping
- Great Dunmow
- Haverhill
- Nuthampstead
- Puckeridge
- Ware

Air Traffic Services Outside Controlled Airspace (ATSOCA)

ATSOCA may be given provided that it does not adversely affect operations at Stansted.

Controllers must not give a Deconfliction service or radar vectors under a traffic service to aircraft below 2300ft within 25nm from the airfield. A radar service outside of 40nm must not be given.
