Gatwick |
Redhill
Redhill aerodrome is located North East of Gatwick, within the Gatwick Control Zone. To avoid the need for Gatwick to give entry clearance into the Control Zone for each Redhill inbound, a local flying area has been created. Aircraft inbound or outbound from Redhill may operate within this local flying area without any reference to Gatwick ATC.

Local flying area A is located within the Gatwick Control Zone. Aircraft may
operate here up to 1,500ft QNH without reference to Gatwick ATC.
Local flying area B is located outside controlled airspace, beneath the Gatwick
Control Area. Aircraft may operate here up to 1,500ft QNH without reference to
Gatwick ATC.
There are occasions where Redhill may request climb to 2000ft within the local flying area. This is subject to coordination between Redhill and FIN (or INT if FIN is offline).
All SID's from Gatwick are deemed separated from the Redhill local flying area. If an aircraft advises ATC that it cannot comply with the climb rate associated with the SID, the aircraft should be placed on an alternative route.
Kenley
Kenley is located North East of Gatwick, adjacent to the M23/M25 junction. It is a notified winch launch glider site. Intense gliding activity can be expected within 2nm of Kenley up to an altitude of 2000ft. The site should be considered active seven days a week during daylight hours. Controllers should avoid routing any flight below 2500ft within 2nm of Kenley.
