INT S is known as the "master" position and shall be the first position to be opened. When online, INT S will provide bandboxed coverage to the Approach positions.
FIN is the next position to be opened. When online, he will carry out the functions of the FIN controller. A Tower position must be online before FIN can be opened. If the Tower position goes offline whilst connected and another controller can not be found to carry out the Tower duties, then the FIN position must be closed. If the traffic situation means it cannot be closed straight away, it must be closed as soon as possible. During that time, FIN will assume responsibility for Aerodrome control.
INT N is the last position to be opened. If either INT S, FIN or AIR N go offline INT N must be closed and the controller should move to the vacant position.
Checklist:
- INT S & AIR online = FIN may be opened
- INT S & FIN & AIR N online = INT S may be opened
In reality two AIR positions exist, one for runway 05L/23R (118.625) and one for runway 05R/23L (119.4) however only the north frequency is used on IVAO during normal operations.
